Rosa’s Recipes (example memory)

February 15, 2026

After Rosa passed, we found her recipe box in the pantry, held shut with a rubber band and her handwriting on every card. Half the cards say things like “salt until it tastes right” and “cook until it looks done.” Ellie has spent the last year trying to translate them — cooking one recipe every Sunday and writing the real measurements underneath.

This weekend it was the arroz con leche, the one Rosa made every time somebody was sick, sad, or just visiting. Mia stood on a step stool and stirred, Maria measured, and Ellie stood back with her arms crossed, saying “a little more cinnamon, mija” in Rosa’s exact voice. Nobody mentioned it. The kitchen smelled the way her house used to.

Ellie typed the recipe up so everyone gets a copy, and we’ve attached it below so it never gets lost again.
