Jamie’s Graduation Day (example memory)

May 16, 2026

Jamie walked across the stage at 10:42 in the morning, and Nana June, who had promised not to cry, was already on her second tissue. Robert had a sign. Linda had a bigger sign. Taylor and Sam had flown up the night before and spent the ceremony trying to spot Jamie in a sea of identical black gowns before finally recognizing the walk.

It took six years, one pandemic, and a thesis on watershed restoration that Robert has now explained to everyone at his office. Afterward there were flowers, far too many photos on the lawn, and a lunch where Nana June gave a toast that ran long and was perfect.

Jamie tossed the cap for the picture, missed the catch, and it landed in Taylor’s hands. She’s decided it stays with her. We are all so proud of the person Jamie has become.
