Noah arrived on a Wednesday in March, three weeks before anyone expected him, and we spent that first night in the hospital not sleeping — just staring. David held him like a jar of something precious and kept whispering that he already looked like his grandfather. Rachel says he does, mostly around the eyebrows.
Six months in, he laughs with his whole body, hates baths, loves the ceiling fan, and has figured out that if he cries at exactly the right pitch, Grandma Ellie appears from another room. Mia and Leo take turns “helping,” which mostly means narrating everything he does. He sleeps through the night about half the time, which we’ve decided to call progress.
We’re writing this down now because we already can’t remember how small he was.
Tiny hands, a lot of sleeping, and two parents who had never been more tired or more sure of anything.
